What Is Biozone?
A biozone is a stratigraphic unit made up of all the layers that contain a certain fossil and were, therefore, laid down during the life of that fossil. A teilzone is the area of the unit in a certain place, based on the local stratigraphic range of the fossil plant or animal.
People usually talk about five different kinds of biozones: range zones, interval zones, assemblage zones, abundance zones, and lineage zones.
A range biozone is a body of rock that shows the known range of stratigraphic and geographic locations where a certain element or elements can be found in the rock record. There are three different kinds of range biozones: taxon range, concurrent range, and partial-range.
An abundance zone, also called an acme zone, is a biozone that is defined by the range in which a certain taxon is most common. Because an abundance zone needs a statistically high number of a certain taxon, the only way to figure out what it is is to look at how many of that taxon there have been over time.
Standard Linnaean binomial notation (generic form capitalised, specific name lower case, both names italicised, with “biozone” capitalised, e.g. Quercus-Pinus Biozone) says that biozones should be named after their most distinctive fossil.

Why Is Biostratigraphy Useful?
Biostratigraphy is a good way to match up sediments of the same age. No formal time series has been made for ostracods in the Bonneville basin, but they help us understand changes in water chemistry that can be linked to changes in lake level over time (Oviatt, 2015b).
What Are The Principles Of Biostratigraphy?
The basic rule of biostratigraphy, which William Smith said was a general law, is that “the same strata are always found in the same order of superposition and contain the same unique fossils.” The topic can be looked at from four different points of view: biostratigraphic correlation.
